Since September 2015 the Parkside Communication Team has expanded to include:
|Miss Hewitt||Speech and Language (Therapist) – Communication Co-ordinator|
|Mrs Payne||Sign-a-long Co-ordinator|
|Mrs Woodworth||Open Door Communication Team Co-ordinator|
|Miss Chambers||Communication Support|
|Mrs Cansdale||NHS Speech and Language Therapy Service|
Although each member of the team has a specific area of responsibility the team work together to promote communication and interaction across the school.
There is a strong emphasis on ensuring that pupils are able to function to the best of their ability in everyday situations, ensuing that communication difficulties are not a barrier to learning or social experience.
In order to achieve this The Open Door Communication Team have adopted a ‘whole school approach’ to work closely with classroom staff. We provide in class support, training to staff, direct 1:1 and group sessions with specific pupils. The Open Door has moved its base within the school to continue to provide pupils with communication activities centred around play, the senses and exploring the world; to highlight a child’s own interests, independence and spontaneous communication.
This is an exciting time for the team and we will continue to work hard for the best interests of the children at Parkside.
